Chapter 8 - The One Forgotten by the World
Chapter Eight: The One Forgotten by the World
As the voice faded, everyone turned toward its source.
In the dark night under the pale crescent moon, a figure emerged from the corner of the street, strolling through the shadows as though the world belonged to him alone.
He wore black clothing and a featureless mask, holding a yellow balloon adorned with childlike doodles—strangely eerie, as though he had just returned from a masquerade ball.
Yet through the mask, a pair of indifferent eyes could be seen, gazing upon the world like those of a god.
The sudden appearance stunned everyone, including the monstrous Spider Priest, which halted its advance. It crushed a small car underfoot, lifting its grotesquely mutated head as its eight eyes locked onto the mysterious figure.
“Who are you?” the Spider Priest demanded in a deep, guttural voice.
The masked man’s gaze remained calm as he replied coolly:
“Have your master behind you ask me that—you’re not qualified.”
The newcomer was none other than Lu Yu, who quickly assessed the dozens of spiders scattered around. His eyes nearly sparkled.@@@@
Materials!
Even with a ten percent drop rate, he could harvest several venom sacs. And judging by the Spider Priest’s power, it was far superior to the rare monsters he’d encountered earlier—it would surely yield higher-quality materials.
To conceal his identity, Lu Yu planned to masquerade as an ancient and powerful being, confusing anyone who witnessed the event.
He still didn’t fully understand this extraordinary world’s hierarchy or whether its factions might be hostile toward him, the Monster Creator. Caution was always wise.
And names...
In a world of eldritch gods, names held power. Though his name came from two worlds, who could guarantee that these dark deities wouldn’t employ name-based sorcery?
Better safe than sorry.
The Spider Priest paused momentarily at Lu Yu’s words before blazing with rage.
How arrogant!
Was this man implying he was a god akin to the Spider Deity, whose name only divine beings could utter?
“You insolent wretch! Do you think your bluff will scare me? How could a lowly creature like you compare to the great Spider Deity?”
The Spider Priest raised its sharp forelimbs and sliced the crushed car into pieces. Shards of metal flew, embedding themselves in nearby walls.
Since its grotesque transformation, its human reasoning had faded, replaced by beastly savagery, rage, and an insatiable hunger for flesh.
Lu Yu’s taunt pushed the creature past its breaking point. It resolved to sacrifice the entire city, hoping the Spider Deity would grant it divine favor, elevating it to the Morningstar rank—or beyond.
Then, it could establish a Spider Kingdom on Earth, devouring flesh at will instead of hiding in the shadows.
The Spider Priest shrieked, its voice quivering with disbelief and terror. Desperately, it turned to flee, abandoning its minions.
I haven’t ascended to Morningstar rank—I can’t die here!
But escape wasn’t an option.
Lu Yu casually squeezed the Fear Balloon, urging it on.
The crimson aura expanded, forming a blood-red moon in the sky like a monstrous, watchful eye.
Hissss!
Blood-red mist seeped from every spider-monster within the aura’s range, siphoning their life essence into the moon. Their bodies withered into husks.
The Spider Priest’s limbs faltered as it noticed its lower half already desiccated. It collapsed, helplessly watching its life force drain away.
“I...refuse...to...accept this...”
Thud!
With its final, bitter cry, the Spider Priest fell.
“Wh-what kind of power is this?”
Humans stared wide-eyed at the devastation—the once-mighty spider horde now reduced to lifeless shells.
The commander rejected the thought that an actual eldritch god had intervened. Such beings wouldn’t save mere humans. This masked figure must be a powerful human...right?
Unfazed by their speculations, Lu Yu approached the Spider Priest’s corpse, its eyes already hollow.
“Cross the line...and face judgment.”
With a faint gesture, the body crumbled to ash, releasing an unseen light that Lu Yu grasped before walking away.
As he passed each fallen spider, they too disintegrated, sometimes releasing faint, reverent glimmers.
The commander, snapping out of his daze, shouted:
“Who...who are you?”
“Who am I?”
Lu Yu pondered briefly, considering future encounters with the supernatural world. A hidden identity could be useful.
Without turning back, he grasped the Fear Balloon and said:
“A forgotten one.”
Dark flames erupted around him, blending with the shadows until he vanished—leaving behind only desolation.
