Chapter 179: Taste of Blood
Chapter 179: Taste of Blood
"Trying to eliminate the only thing holding your clan back?" Damon almost laughed. "I heard about your troubles in the sky. Tengu goes last."
That part for Damon was non-negotiable. Ayame already told him how the Tengu clan countered the Dragon Clan’s ability to rule the skies. If it wasn’t for that, all the other clans would’ve long fallen. He wasn’t going to give Yoru an advantage he wasn’t ready to deal with yet."
She watched him for a couple of moments before slowly rising to her feet. "You dare negotiate?" she asked in a tone that would make any dragon or beast from this world crumble.
"No," he shook his head. "I’m not negotiating. Tengu goes last."
Yoru approached him with an expression that made him unsure what to expect. She paused only a step before him, her eyes never leaving his.
"Then we start with Phoenix," she finally said. "Any more questions?"
"Just one. Why are we here? Shouldn’t we make a move before the others find out about our alliance?"
"These creatures are too scared to leave the safety of their territory... The day has been long, we shall rest before heading out tomorrow."
Damon lingered on the explanation before asking a different question.
"Where do I stay?"
"Here," she replied as if it were the most obvious answer. "Where else?"
"Here? As in your room?" he asked.
She shook her head and took a step toward him. "Closer..." she leaned toward his ear. "The dragons will tear you apart the second you leave my side, so I suggest you get as close as possible."
"I can handle myself," he replied, shutting her down, which only worked against him.
"Ohh?" Her smile widened. "Think you can handle a dragon?"
For some reason, Damon felt a sudden realisation that they weren’t exactly talking about the same thing.
"I killed a divine beast," he finally replied. "I doubt killing an ordinary dragon will be a problem."
She didn’t pull back at the comment of slaying her kin, instead her smile only widened, and her amusement grew stronger.
In centuries of her existence, this was the first time she met someone who wasn’t scared to oppose everything she said.
"I lied," she said, "I do bite..." her arms reached for his neck. "But something tells me you can handle it just fine."
"I usually kill anything that tries to bite me," he said before reaching out and pulling her arms from his neck.
But the second he raised her arms in the air, she leaned forward.
Her lips moved toward his, and when they did—
"What the hell?" he said, taking a step back, a small stream of blood running from his bottom lip, which had a small cut on it.
Smile on Yoru’s face widened as she licked his blood from her lip.
Damon looked at her for a long moment.
Then at the small streak of blood on his finger where he’d touched his lip, and then back at her.
"I did warn you," she said pleasantly.
’She’s crazy...’ Damon thought as he watched her turn around and walk slowly toward her bed.
"Oh... and last warning," she turned. "If you come anywhere near my bed, I will do a lot more than just bite~"
Her warning carried a tone that sounded more like an invitation.
Damon ignored the remark and moved to a small chair near the balcony, settling down as comfortably as the furniture allowed, which happened to be not comfortable at all.
The sleep, however, came easier than he expected it to be. Of course, he wasn’t naive enough to sleep in enemy territory without a care. He summoned the Dark Knight to watch over him and wake him through their connection if anything happened.
Damon was first to wake up. His neck felt a little stiff from the hard surface of the wooden chair, but other than that, he felt surprisingly rested.
To his surprise, Yoru was still deep asleep. Her body was completely still, her chest, at least through the heavy bedsheets, didn’t even seem to move to breathe.
"Yoru."
She didn’t respond.
He repeated her name a couple of times, getting a step closer to the bed each time until his knees hit the frame of the massive bed, and he repeated her name for maybe a tenth time.
"Yoru?"
Once again, silence followed.
Damon turned around, assuming she was either dead or in some type of reptile stumbler, at least that’s what he called it in his head.
The second he turned, however, the bed rustled softly behind him, and a second later, he felt himself get pulled backwards.
He landed on the bed with his back against the mattress, Yoru already hovering above him, her jet black hair falling loosely around them, her deep blue eyes open and completely alert.
Not a single trace of sleep in them. She had either been awake the entire time or had snapped awake faster than humans did.
"You came near the bed," she said pleasantly.
"My knees touched the frame," he corrected, not that it mattered to her.
"Close enough," she responded.
"I don’t have time for games. Are we going to the Phoenix Territory or not—"
Before he could voice his frustration with her behaviour, she leaned down and took another bite at his lips.
This time, however, not immediately, she took a moment to brush her lips against his before taking a bite.
She pulled back the moment she took a taste of his blood, a wide smile appearing on her pale face.
’There is something seriously wrong with her.’ Damon noted before sitting up.
He stood and touched the cut on his lip once before moving directly toward the door.
"I’m leaving with or without you," he said, but the second he finished his sentence, he realised Yoru was already walking beside him. Fully dressed and void of any of the previous playfulness.
"Do you even know the way, human?"
