Chapter 32 The Dwarven Blacksmith Profiting from the War at the Trading Post 2
Chapter 32 The Dwarven Blacksmith Profiting from the War at the Trading Post 2
Balin thought to himself, "Why does this lady's demeanor resemble that of an elf?"
"Looks like my employer is about to make a big profit again," Owen muttered.
Bahrain1 thought it probably wasn't her. The hotel owner had said before that the elf didn't have money to pay with seashells, so what big business could she possibly have?
It's rare to find a woman in this city with the same气质 (qi zhi, a kind of refined elegance) as Andrea 2.
At this moment, a serious-looking old man walked over, glanced at the three of them, and paid particular attention to the two dwarfs.
"Irving, I told you not to bring outsiders in."
"Old man, if you won't let my brothers go out for some fresh air, then I'll have to find some helpers to come in and assist," Owen explained, shrugging.
"Don't worry, they're dwarven craftsmen here to repair our staffs; they're absolutely reliable. You wouldn't want the staffs to break down at such a crucial time when we're doing this for you, would you?"
The old man frowned, but said nothing more, waved his hand, and turned to leave.
"This old man must be the owner of the trading post," Bahrain thought to himself.
The old man walked towards the basement. At the end of the stairs, there seemed to be a figure with pointed ears standing with its back to them. It looked like a woman, wearing a figure-hugging black outfit.
The female elf had something beside her that looked like Terra, a blocky shape, but pure white in color—uh, a statue?
Upon reaching the second floor, in the corridor, a dozen or so mages sat in rows against the wall. Neither Balin 1 nor Tie Mei recognized any of these faces.
Owen gathered up the staffs that needed repair and laid them out in front of the dwarf.
Bahrain 1 picked one up and weighed it in his hand: "Tsk tsk, the craftsmanship of these staffs is quite good."
Irving smiled proudly: "So, how long will it take to finish?"
Iron Eyebrows carefully examined each staff. They were mostly made of copper or iron. Polishing was a basic skill for a blacksmith, but reinforcing the intricate magical circuits to their original form was a delicate task that required patience and skill.
He calculated for a moment: "If I finish everything, I'll probably be working until dawn."
"That was pretty fast."
Irving was fairly satisfied with the speed. If he had gone to one of those magic shops that focused on a more upscale approach, although it would have been the right fit for him, he didn't know how long it would have taken, and it would have been much more expensive.
Since it's a metal staff anyway, it doesn't matter who repairs it.
Several mages left, while Tie Mei and Balin1 put down their tools and quickly began working.
Time flies, and night falls.
Iron Eyebrow and Balin 1 were focused on working on their staffs on the second floor when they suddenly heard the sound of a window latch being opened, as if someone had climbed in through the window.
Bahrain 1 cautiously went over to check, only to be surprised to find that it was Andrea 2 who had climbed in through the window!
"What are you doing here?!" they both asked in hushed tones almost simultaneously.
"Was that lady from earlier in the day really you?"
"Shh!" Andrea 2 quickly gestured for Balin 1 to be quiet, and whispered rapidly, "Don't make a sound, don't let anyone else know I'm here. Also, if I get caught, don't risk your lives to save me."
The elf added seriously, "If I really can't escape, I have my own way of getting away. I don't want to drag you into my affairs."
Andrea 2 has already made up her mind: at worst, she can just commit suicide with a dagger and then be resurrected, although it will be very painful.
Arrested? Although Bahrain 1 didn't understand what she was going to do, she nodded solemnly.
Then, he saw Andrea 2's figure flash by and quietly slip into the direction of the basement.
"Could Andrea 2 be here to scout the place during the day and then steal it at night?" Balin 1 wondered.
Bahrain 1 went back to work, changing the grinding wheel while keeping an eye on the direction of the basement, but after a long time, Andrea 2 still hadn't come out.
Bahrain1 didn't know exactly what she did down there, but he thought she must have succeeded and left. After all, she was an elf; she shouldn't have been caught.
Just then, a series of hurried footsteps suddenly came from the side door of the shop, and a thin man ran in with a frightened expression.
Immediately afterwards, Bahrain 1 heard a clanging sound approaching from outside the front yard of the trading house.
Bahrain 1 struggled to jump up and climb onto the windowsill. The dog peered down furtively and saw a group of fully armed adventurers outside.
Is the one leading the group Ragon 1?
"Why is he here? Wasn't he supposed to be looking for that fake information dealer today? Could that skinny man who just ran in be him?"
Then he saw Lagon 1 walk up alone and stand in front of the large iron gate in the front yard of the trading house, seemingly wanting to negotiate.
At this moment, Balin1 saw several mages run over from the basement, grab the staffs that had just been repaired or were being repaired, run to the window, and bombard Ragon1 and the others outside with a barrage of magic bullets.
After the loud bang, Balin1 heard Ragon1 cursing, and then saw the adventurers and mages outside the trading post firing magic missiles in his direction.
Bahrain 1 is worried about the outside world of Lagun 1.
At this moment, Tie Mei nudged him with his elbow, his eyes gleaming: "Brother, want to take this opportunity to make some money?"
I didn't quite understand Bahrain 1.
Tie Mei lowered his voice and explained, "See? Both sides are exchanging blows with their staffs right now. This kind of high-intensity magical release will cause the metal parts of the staffs to oxidize very badly. Let's deal with these mages' staffs now, and then run over to Lagon1 and the others to polish theirs too."
"Trying to have your cake and eat it too? But downstairs are Lagun 1 and his crew!" Balin 1 said.
Are you coming or not?
Bahrain 1 hesitated for a moment between friendship and money, but ultimately decided that Ragon 1 and his group were experienced and shouldn't cause any major problems.
The two dwarves picked up their tools, preparing to make their escape, when a mage noticed them and demanded, "Hey! What are you two dwarves up to?"
Without turning his head, Tie Mei shouted loudly and confidently, "We're going to polish the mage's staff! You guys keep fighting!"
The monk was taken aback by the other party's words, paused for a moment, and then angrily retorted, "Whose side are you?!"
Tie Mei had already come running downstairs, her voice echoing from the stairwell: "I'm on Qian and Tie's side! After I finish dealing with their side, I'll come back and deal with yours! Don't worry, I'll still take the money!"
"Damn those two dwarves!" another mage cursed.
Bahrain 1 followed closely behind, and after catching up with Iron Eyebrow, added a condition: "Don't let Ragon 1 know that I'm also involved in this."
"Know."
Outside the trading post, the mages behind the low wall were focusing their firepower on the trading post when suddenly a dwarf crouched down and ran over, asking, "Gentlemen, do you need your staffs polished? Look at how badly they're embroidered."
"Smoothing it a bit will improve the efficiency of magic conduction. You won't be able to take it down anytime soon, right? Do you want it smoothed out? If so, give me the money."
Although the mages were somewhat bewildered by the sudden appearance of the dwarf, upon closer examination, they realized that what he said did make sense.
The staff's condition will indeed decrease after high-intensity spellcasting.
The monks agreed, allowing Tie Mei and the subsequent Bahrain 1 to begin work on site.
Seeing that the mages inside the trading post were still attacking them, the adventurers and mages became anxious and urged Tie Mei to hurry up.
Pebbles from the low wall fell onto Iron Eyebrow's helmet, but his hands kept moving: "Don't worry, I know what I'm doing. I'll finish what I need to finish. I can control it. Don't rush me."
Inside the trading post, Owen saw this scene from the window and quickly shouted to his companions, "Damn it, that dwarf is behind the low wall on the right. Don't shoot over there. These adventurers outside seem to be planning a siege and a protracted war. If we anger that dwarf and he only helps the other side and doesn't come back, we'll be in trouble."
