Chapter 477: The Aetherium Sect’s Ten-Thousand-Year Objective
Alex Sherman uttered a few senseless words and then stopped talking.
His meeting with Thea Shaw ended there.
From this conversation, both Thea and the police sensed a hint of madness.
However, they now had a hypothesis.
There was someone behind Alex Sherman, someone perhaps with a plan that Thea Shaw inadvertently disrupted.
That’s why Alex called Thea the variable.
Thea felt she wasn’t the variable, but rather, June Sherman was.
If Alex Sherman hadn’t acted foolishly at a young age, he wouldn’t be in jail today.
Despite her thoughts, Thea still told Landon Ford about her meeting with Alex Sherman.
"He saw you?"
As expected, Landon Ford was somewhat intrigued, as even he hadn’t thought Alex would meet Thea.
Thea relayed what Alex had said to Landon, adding her analysis: "Although it sounds quite insane, I speculate it’s related to that fortune teller behind him. By human understanding, a fortune teller peeking into some divine will is indeed a curious existence, but what Alex believes should go far beyond that."
"He met with me as if to demonstrate something, showing me that the person behind him is omnipotent."
Thea scoffed, "I don’t believe this is enough to get him out?"
If Alex had confronted Thea alone, he might have managed to get himself out, but this case was under Landon’s supervision.
A special investigation team had already been dispatched, and rescuing Alex, even for people at the center of power, was wishful thinking.
"He’s already a discarded piece," Landon said. "His statements confirm that there’s indeed a considerable force behind him, but what could he be doing other than generating immense profits by shipping people abroad?"
This is a dark path, invariably involving dark people.
It seems like a perilous venture purely for profit.
But why did Alex earn this money?
Thea realized something and immediately asked, "Has there been an investigation into his account funds?"
"The finances are all normal," Landon had already checked the most crucial funds: "All the money Alex earned in this line of work is in his foreign accounts, and it aligns with the transactions he’s done. Besides daily expenses, his funds haven’t been transferred to anyone else, except for a small portion on Nancy Shea and June Sherman."
In other words, he hasn’t used this money to support the force behind him.
If this were a disguise, it’s not easy to maintain over a decade, as the money always remains there.
Thea gasped, "If the person behind him isn’t after money, could they actually be a god?"
Only a god doesn’t love money.
Landon laughed coldly, "Not loving money only proves one thing: this person must be very wealthy themselves, not needing money, thus having another agenda."
Unfortunately, with such a short amount of time, acquiring vast information requires a long period.
Landon still had to handle daily official duties, and these didn’t align with his work, adding a massive workload that he accepted for Thea’s safety, not feeling it burdensome.
As the discussion continued, Landon concluded, "All considered, The Aetherium Sect is the most fitting organization."
They’re not short of money, nor a reputable orthodox sect.
Thea found this reasonable but lacked evidence, so she said, "By the way Alex talked, it seemed like an individual—I’ve only met a few from The Aetherium Sect, and neither Mark Moody nor Adrian Anson has the capability; they’ve all been jailed, unless we investigate their internal personnel."
