Chapter 1240: Since Leaving the Imperial City, Mr. Ji Has Been Living Quite Comfortably
Constantine Stewart walked in, and for a split second, everyone turned to look at him. It was hard to imagine that the boss behind the auction house was such a young and refined man. This Mr. Stewart was not known to have a prestigious family background; to have built such a vast business empire, he must be at least forty, if not fifty. But so young?
A wave of shock passed through everyone’s hearts, making them acutely aware of the disparities between people. If not for the auction house manager’s anxious demeanor, they might have thought he was a noble from the Imperial City.
Constantine Stewart didn’t glance at the troublesome Coldwell Family but went straight upstairs into the private box where Griffith Squire was.
The ignored Coldwell Family members turned pale one by one, while the Brocade City elites whispered among themselves, feeling secretly delighted. Let the Coldwell Family look down on people every year, so arrogant, let’s see them act arrogant now!
Entering the box, Stewart saw the long infamous bandit leader dressed in a white shirt and trousers, handsome and sitting with a classically innocent-looking young girl drinking tea; his eye twitched slightly.
The drama Griffith Squire stirred up with the Southwest Military Zone still had people on edge. The top invitation for this auction was sent to Griffith, whose reputation was well-known to Stewart; even Richard Shaw dared to provoke him—not someone to be trifled with.
"Didn’t expect after leaving the Imperial City, you settled down in Brocade City, Mr. Squire. Whatever you fancy tonight at the auction is on me." The refined and handsome man stepped forward, extending a hand, and the deep blue watch on his wrist gleamed with the perfect cut of 108 diamonds, exuding elite flair.
Griffith Squire, wearing a special military watch with no diamond decoration, had a somewhat rigid smile. His almond-shaped eyes squinted lazily as he shook hands and said, "Since leaving the Imperial City, Mr. Stewart seems to be living well. How’s Mrs. Stewart?"
Griffith Squire remembered he had fished out a favor for him in the Imperial City, vaguely recalling Mrs. Stewart got along well with Delphine. This Mr. Stewart’s favors aren’t easy to earn.
The man stiffened slightly, then smoothly concealed it.
"Thank you for your concern. I have other matters and won’t disturb you two further." Stewart glanced at the manager, who immediately stayed behind to serve that box attentively.
Stewart made a brief appearance, spoke a few words, and went downstairs, leaving without giving a glance to the Brocade City elites, including the Coldwell Family.
Ian Coldwell’s face went crimson seeing everyone watching his disgrace, snorted, and went upstairs into Griffith Squire’s box, smiling, "Son-in-law, why did you and Aurora come so early?"
Ian Coldwell squeezed in with his wife and daughter into Griffith’s box, not feeling embarrassed.
The crowd in the elegant floor seats snorted disdainfully; he really grew more shameless with age.
Griffith Squire had come out to take Aurora for some entertainment, and the originally not-so-large box suddenly crowded with three more people, his face darkened, eyes narrowing at Ian Coldwell.
Aware of Griffith’s displeasure, fearing he might drive them out and make the Coldwell father-daughter feud headline news tomorrow.
Aurora hurriedly tugged Griffith’s sleeve, her black eyes looking at him, shaking her head. Wearing a red hat, the bright color set her skin off as even fairer, lips red as berries. She was like an enchanting spirit.
The man reached out to touch her hat, feeling its excellent texture. The little red-hooded rabbit was very obedient, reluctantly agreeing.
Ian Coldwell rejoiced and sat down quickly, while Zoe Kingston glared at her daughter, who had her nose in the air and rolling her eyes, signaling her to restrain herself.
Brooke Coldwell snorted, sat at the side, and started bossing the auction staff around.
The auction items were all top-notch; Griffith Squire had no collector’s inclination. For someone living life on the edge, money and weapons were far more important than collectibles. The auction had hardly begun when Griffith grew bored.
"Anything you fancy, hmm?" Griffith Squire asked Aurora softly.
Aurora shook her head. The young girl was thrifty and knew her mother had left her considerable assets. Still, one shouldn’t just sit and consume them away; having money gives her confidence.
Zoe Kingston and her daughter, however, coaxed Ian to bid on various items, and for the sake of face, he would occasionally buy one or two pieces for them.
Watching, Griffith sneered and started bidding on everything they eyed. No one at the auction was foolish; not only did they recognize Griffith’s power, they knew the auction’s boss Mr. Stewart had spoken with him earlier—no one dared bid against Griffith.
Hence, whenever Griffith called to bid, hardly anyone would follow suit. Ian initially competed for a couple of rounds but soon realized the situation; looking at Griffith’s handsome but devilish face, a chill crept into his heart.
After a few rounds, everyone noticed the trick. Griffith essentially matched Ian’s bids; this was clearly a confrontation!
Holy shit, major news! The crowd buzzed with excitement, gossip flames burning brightly. Calling Ian out as audacious, bringing in-law relations to the fore—this was clearly slapping faces in public!
Griffith couldn’t guess the thoughts downstairs; he continued purchasing everything Zoe Kingston and her daughter desired, then said gently to Aurora, "I don’t know what you like, but since your stepmother and sister fancy these, you can pick the ones you like when we get back, or toss them if you don’t care for them."
"Griffith Squire, what gives you the right to bully us like this? We’re family, and you only treat her well," Brooke Coldwell protested furiously.
Zoe Kingston was also dizzy with anger, almost fainting. She finally persuaded Ian to bring them to the auction, hoping to gather substantial loot, but all was getting handed over to that little bitch Aurora—they got nothing.
Griffith Squire chuckled coldly, slowly saying, "You compare yourselves to Aurora?"
Caught off-guard by affection, the corners of Aurora’s lips curled gently, seeing her stepmother and sister consistently defeated by Griffith, feeling both delighted and bad for the expense. She scribbled on paper: "Costly, I don’t like any."
"It’s not expensive. I can afford it. If you dislike, pass them as gifts, holidays always come to call. You can gift my sister." Griffith touched her red hat, smiling tenderly, "Leah enjoys collecting. I’ll take you to meet her sometime."
"Sitting idle and consuming it all," Aurora pondered, writing four words.
Griffith subtly smiled, finding the little rabbit he raised exceedingly cute, said in a low voice, "I’ll be marrying into your family, if everything’s consumed, you’ll have to support me, hmm?"
Aurora’s ears blushed slightly, instinctively nodding.
Their sweet talk at this moment infuriated Brooke Coldwell, who turned livid, stood up abruptly, pushed Aurora aside, and yelled, "You mute, what makes you flaunt in front of me?"
