Chapter 35 The Perfect Witness
Chapter 35 The Perfect Witness
On the third day back at the base, Suya sat alone in the makeshift data analysis room. All around her were buzzing servers, and the screens were filled with massive amounts of data brought back from "Eden"—evidence of crimes accumulated by the "Phoenix" organization over the decades, and the silent accusations of countless victims.
Lin Yu had advised her to rest, saying the rest could be left to the technical team. But Su Ya shook her head. She knew that only she could complete this task. Because within those data lay a language only she could understand.
That was the backdoor left by the "twin virus," and also the doctor's final act of madness—an encryption core called "Eden Code." Unlike a regular firewall, it was more like a biometric lock, requiring specific gene sequences and brainwave frequencies to open.
Suya put on the neural connection headband, took a deep breath, and immersed her consciousness in the ocean of data.
In an instant, the world fell silent. The complex code was no longer cold symbols in her eyes, but a series of flowing images: screams in the laboratory, the disappearance of her brothers and sisters, the pain of her brother Lin Mo being modified... Each line of code was a sealed memory.
"Found it," she whispered from the depths of her consciousness.
On the screen, the previously unbreakable encrypted files suddenly decrypted. Documents unfolded like an avalanche, revealing the astonishing network of the "Phoenix" organization's global infiltration of political, business, and scientific circles. Those once high-ranking names were now laid bare in the sunlight.
However, Suya did not notice that the moment she unlocked the last combination lock, a faint signal was detached from the server and silently shot towards the satellite.
That was a "beacon" left by the PhD.
……
Meanwhile, on a luxury cruise ship hundreds of kilometers away from the base, a man in a black suit received a phone call.
"The signal has appeared." The man's voice was cold and elegant, a stark contrast to the swirling wine glass in his hand. "The 'key' has unlocked the lock."
He walked to the porthole, looked at the city lights in the distance, and a playful smile appeared on his lips.
"The treasure of 'Eden' isn't something anyone can keep to themselves. Notify the 'Scavenger' team: target: that girl. Capture her alive, or... destroy her."
After hanging up the phone, the man downed his glass of red wine in one gulp.
"Perfect witnesses often don't live to see the trial."
……
In the data analysis room, Suya suddenly felt a sharp headache. It was a side effect of overusing neural connections, and also a sign of the backlash from the "Eden Code".
"What's wrong with you?" Lin Yu pushed open the door and rushed over when he saw Su Ya's pale face.
"I...I've solved it." Suya weakly pointed to the screen. "All the evidence...is here."
Lin Yu stared at the densely packed documents on the screen, a flicker of shock crossing his eyes, quickly turning into deep worry. He knew all too well the value of this evidence, and all too well the danger it posed.
"You did a good job." Lin Yu gently patted Su Ya's shoulder. "But now, you have to leave here."
Why?
"Even though 'Phoenix' has fallen, there are still many people who covet these things." Lin Yu turned off the screen, pulled Su Ya, and walked towards the door. "We have to move immediately. It's no longer safe here."
Before the words were finished, a muffled explosion suddenly came from outside the base.
The alarm blared throughout the entire base in an instant.
"It's too late." Lin Yu drew his gun from his waist and shielded Su Ya behind him. "They're here."
Outside the window, several dark figures were silently approaching. They wore state-of-the-art stealth suits and carried deadly weapons. They were "Scavengers," assassins who specialized in cleaning up the messes left by the "Phoenix" organization.
Their target is Suya, the "silent and perfect witness" who can unlock all secrets.
"Don't be afraid," Lin Yu said softly. "As long as I'm alive, I won't let them take you away."
As Su Ya watched Lin Yu's resolute back, the fear in her heart gradually dissipated. She knew that she was no longer a puppet to be manipulated. She was the "key," and also the sharp sword.
She gripped the neural link transmitter in her pocket tightly; it was her last weapon.
"Lin Yu," she said softly, "I'm ready."
In the darkness of night, a battle for truth and freedom quietly begins.
Suya, the girl who was once abandoned by the world, is now standing at the center of the storm, guarding the door to justice with her silent courage.
