Chapter 46 Captured
Chapter 46 Captured
Standing to the side, Li Ang's mind suddenly raced when he heard the statement, "A higher sequence level than a witch can resist the effects of magic circles."
He seemed to be Sequence 9, while Helena was Sequence 7, two ranks higher than him.
When that magic circle was activated, he led Charlotte through the area with the most intense dark red light without feeling anything.
Was it because of his unique dual-sequence ability? Or was it because the detective was there?
But since Charlotte hadn't told him about it, Li Ang didn't bring it up now either.
"Alright." Shirley started walking, her mood completely unaffected by the annihilation of the servants. "Since we can't count on the servants, let's split up and search. The mansion is big, but it should only take a few hours."
"I'll start from the east. You two start from the west. Whoever finds someone first just needs to shout it out."
Charlotte shook her head. "I'm a little tired and can't participate in the search for the time being."
Li Ang looked at her, wanting to complain.
Even though I was the one who did all the work, and the other person didn't seem to have done anything except follow me at the beginning, why is he acting so tired now?
Could it be that the other party used other abilities without my knowledge?
Shirley didn't press further, she just nodded. "Then, Little Titi, you rest. I'll help you find the person."
Charlotte didn't correct her pronunciation; instead, she called out to her, "Don't let her get away this time."
Shirley grinned and said, "Don't worry." She gave her a thumbs up, then turned and strode away down the corridor.
Looking at the blue figure, Li Ang thought that although the other person seemed carefree, he wasn't stupid at all.
They simply chose the easiest way to live: not questioning, not delving into things, and not carrying other people's emotions on their own shoulders.
"Aren't you going?" Charlotte asked, looking at him.
"Are you sure you can go back to your room by yourself? Do you need me to take you back?"
Charlotte didn't answer, and instead strode towards the stairs.
So Li Ang had no choice but to search in another direction. As he passed the servants' rooms, each room was equally silent.
To be honest, he had expected to see the horrific scene after the magic circle was activated, with the servants turning into a puddle of pus under the influence of the magic, just as Charlotte had previously said.
But when he pushed open the servants' room door, he only saw two elderly maids lying on the bed, breathing evenly and with normal complexions.
They didn't turn into pus, or even have any obvious wounds; they just closed their eyes as if they were asleep.
Li Ang went into the room and did a quick check, also using his ability to examine the two maids.
There was nothing unusual; it only showed that the other party was asleep.
Excluding the possibility that Helena's plan failed, the only explanation is that Charlotte used some means to prevent everyone in the mansion from turning into pus.
Is this also part of their ability?
Li Ang pushed open all the servants' doors on both sides of the corridor. The situation in each room was exactly the same as before, with the servants either lying on the bed or on the floor, fast asleep.
"So it really was that woman who did it?" he muttered to himself.
She never told him the whole truth; the other party's item bond ability was only the tip of the iceberg.
It's even possible that the other party already knew the truth about this mansion through their abilities, otherwise it would be impossible to explain why they seemed to have everything under control.
Moreover, the other party's attitude towards the viscount is also abnormal.
The other party was, after all, the employer who made the request, but the detective's reaction was as if she already knew what kind of scum the other party was.
Li Ang was very curious.
Continue searching.
I arrived at the door of a room at the end of a corridor. It looked like a storage room. Pushing it open, I found all sorts of odds and ends inside, and the air was filled with the smell of dust.
Just as Li Ang was about to close the door and leave, he caught a glimpse of something about the size of a palm moving at the bottom of the innermost row of wooden shelves.
Upon closer inspection, it was indeed Helena.
Her golden hair was piled up messily on her head like a tangled ball of yarn, and she held a small shovel taller than herself in her hand, prying at the crack in the floorboards in the corner.
The room's window overlooks a wall, suggesting the other party might be planning to dig a tunnel to escape.
Li Ang tiptoed over, gently moved closer, and then grabbed him!
Helena hovered in mid-air, still holding the small shovel that was taller than herself, her body shrunk to about the length of a human hand, like a large-sized figurine.
After realizing she had been caught by Li Ang, she struggled a couple of times, her two short, radish-like legs kicking in the air, her hand holding the small shovel poking at him, but because her arms were too short, the shovel head didn't even touch his sleeve.
"Put me down!" Her voice was very soft, like a mosquito's buzz, but the indomitable spirit in her tone was undiminished.
Its ability does indeed allow the body to shrink, but as it shrinks, all of its physical attributes decrease proportionally.
At this moment, she was probably only strong enough to pry up a floorboard; she couldn't even beat an adult Hakimi, let alone break free from Li Ang's fingers.
Li Ang, of course, did not. He simply held Helena up to his eyes and silently placed the black knife against her neck.
At that moment, Helena looked like a rag doll that had fallen from a shop window and been stepped on.
His clothes were torn, his hair was very messy, and there was a dried mud stain on his face, it was hard to tell whether he had rubbed it in the basement or stuck it on in this kind of storage room.
"I advise you not to move around. Otherwise, I can't guarantee I won't accidentally cut your neck open."
Feeling the coldness on her neck, Helena had no choice but to stop struggling.
The main problem is that her ability to change form requires an hour to cool down; otherwise, she would have already reverted to her original form.
"Found her." Li Ang turned his head and called out in the direction where Shirley was.
From afar came Shirley's reply: "Coming! Coming! Coming!"
Seeing this, Helena completely gave up struggling, and the small shovel she was holding slipped from her fingers and fell to the floor with a "thud".
If he continued to struggle, he might actually be killed on the spot by that armed detective. It would be better to surrender, at least he could save his own life.
Not long after, Shirley appeared at the door of the storage room. When she saw Helena being carried by Li Ang, she quickly came over.
"Wow," she said, "it really can shrink that much!"
Instead of immediately reaching out to take the figurine-sized witch, she tilted her head and examined her for a long time, her eyes full of curiosity.
"How can she shrink so much? Did she use alchemy to transform?"
"Form change," Li Ang said. "Her ability allows her to freely change her body size."
After Li Ang finished speaking, he handed Helena to Shirley.
Sherry lifted Helena up like he did, using her own abilities. Since she was taller than Helena, Helena had no chance of breaking free.
"Let's go. Let's go find Charlotte." Leon turned and walked out of the storage room, with Sherry following behind him.
