Chapter 16 – Tracker

"Pregnant?!"

Gao Yang and Qing Ling exclaimed in unison, both shocked.

Can a beast actually get pregnant?

Don't beasts lack human reproductive organs?

Gao Yang's head started to ache, there were too many questions he needed to figure out. Unfortunately, he was still a weakling and didn't know how long he could survive.

Without hesitation, Qing Ling asked, "Are you sure she didn't deceive you?"

"Sure." Officer Huang affirmed, "I can't think of any reason why she would deceive me."

"Are you sure the child is yours?"

"Um..."

Qing Ling's question struck at the soul, and Officer Huang pondered for a moment. "I believe there is no grassland on my head."

Qing Ling fell silent.

After hesitating for a moment, Gao Yang spoke up, "Officer Huang, may I ask you a personal question?"

Officer Huang's smile became somewhat awkward. "I know what you're going to ask. Although my wife is a beast, we have a good relationship. After all, we were in love before I awakened. Even now, we still have intimate moments about once a week."

Gao Yang nodded, indicating for him to continue.

"My wife is a bit shy. Every time we're intimate, she wants the lights off and she likes to drink some red wine..." Officer Huang paused. "Ahem, you two are still young, I won't go into details. Anyway, because I've never had relations with a real human female, I don't feel that anything is wrong when I'm with her."

Officer Huang sighed. "My wife has always wanted a child, so I naturally didn't use contraception. I thought that beasts couldn't have children."

"What about after that? What are your plans?" Gao Yang continued to ask.

Officer Huang took out a cigarette, placed it near his mouth, and then put it back in his hand. "To be honest, when I first heard about my wife's pregnancy, my first reaction wasn't shock, but happiness."

"Happiness?" Qing Ling frowned.

"Yes, the joy of being a father. I find it hard to believe myself." Officer Huang lit the cigarette with determination and took a deep drag. "I've decided to have the child, if the child can be born safely."

"Are you crazy?" Qing Ling was puzzled. "She's a beast!"

"I know..." Officer Huang smiled bitterly. "But she's also my wife, and she's carrying my child."

Gao Yang remained silent. He supported Officer Huang's decision deep down in his heart. He had a vague intuition that the birth of this "child" might bring out more secrets in this world. You can ask me two questions, think carefully before asking."

"How can talent levels be improved?" Qing Ling blurted out.

"However," Officer Huang turned around. "With both of you joining now, I think I can try to interview again. The premise is that you also want to join that organization."

"We do!"

Gao Yang immediately agreed. He looked at Qing Ling.

Qing Ling asked with a cold face, "By joining the organization, will we know how to upgrade our talents?"

This woman... besides becoming stronger, can she have any other thoughts in her mind?

"When is the interview?" Qing Ling asked."Don't rush, it will be sorted out in a couple of days. Wait for my news." Officer Huang glanced at his phone, "I have to go now, I need to accompany my wife for an ultrasound."

Gao Yang retorted, "Aren't you supposed to be working? Is it okay to skip out?"

"The joy of slacking off, you can't imagine..." Officer Huang was laughing one second, and the next his face turned serious. He swiftly drew his gun, aiming at the door, "Who's there?!"

Qing Ling was closest to the door. She spun around quickly, a Tang Blade materializing in her hand, and in an instant, she thrust it into the closed office door.

"Shiiing—"

Qing Ling pulled back the Tang Blade, shaking her head, "There's no one outside the door."

Gao Yang was stunned!

Wait, why did you just stab through the door? What if there was a beast behind it? What if you got it wrong and there was a person standing there?

It seems like she would rather kill a thousand by mistake than let one go.

Officer Huang slowly put away his gun, "It seems I was overly suspicious, I've been a bit on edge lately."

Officer Huang put on his police cap, "Alright, let's go."

The rest of the day was quite peaceful for Gao Yang.

Then, he continued to idle.

After the Evening Self-study, Gao Yang went home alone.

Late at night, the streets were eerily quiet. The rain had stopped, but the road was still damp. Puddles of all sizes were everywhere, reflecting the neon lights, looking like entrances to another world.

"Splash." Gao Yang stepped into a puddle and stopped.

Something... didn't feel right.

A thought flashed through his mind: someone was following him.
