Chapter 589 That's Just The Way, Life Is
[HAWI]
"They might die if we keep this up, free them," Malika said and they all kept laughing at the absurdity of the duo. It was like they were still not convinced that they were not going to get any punishments for Sherry if they called this off.
"They might need a trusted adult this time," Mbali added and the duo nodded.
"Hudhayfah it is," Shery sighed as she handed them the conjured cake by Trey.
"I think we're all going to regret this. Anyway, you're free of your bondage you two," Hudhayfah said and Hawi was the first to let out an exaggerated sigh. You would think that she had been in prison the whole damn time.
"I think my mouth is smelling after all that silence," Adolf whined.
"Mine too, brother, mine too," Hawi added in agreement while the rest of the knights watched as they ate their cake dramatically. It was no secret that they all would sell their souls for food, but this was more than interesting.
"Let's eat before they change their minds again.," Adolf stated dramatically and Hawi nodded as they stuffed their faces.
The sight before the knights was hilarious, to say the least. The duo was letting out moans and groans, but the knights were not surprised. This was just them being in their element and the worst danger like this.
"Thank you for taking good care of our home," Hawi said after they were done eating. She had taken in the sight of their home and scanned as far as she could — which was throughout the entire new Sicario — and she loved what they had done with home.
Sicario felt like it was one of the big cities that had been merged. It was a beautiful place and there were no signs of distress. The wolves who had been kept in the dungeons were just minor offenders and they would eventually be let out.
Of course, in her scan. Hawi's eyes found the one man she had thought had gotten to die over the years, but he hadn't died. If anything, he was still healthy, still passing time in the dungeons and in silence.
It was or what Hawi had thought possible, truly, but this night, she wasn't about to focus on the man. Tonight was about meeting with her people and she would dwell on all of that for as long as she could.
"Of course, we would take care of it. It was our home, it is our home, and will always be our home, Hawi. We all worked together and so hard to make it livable like this and we wouldn't let anyone fuck it up for us," Elodie said softly.
For years she hated herself for not being the traditional one. She should have built Drew and his crew another ship. She had the magic and even the precision that the boat had been made of.
She knew it so damn well and yet even then has failed to mend it for them so they would go back to their lives at sea. They were supposed to make a round trip and yet their trip had been a one-way trip for her.
That was the kind of shit that fucked her up along with the loss of her mate. She had struggled to process it with ease and that was also part of the reason she hadn't wanted to come back home.
She wouldn't know what to say to Theo if Rio had left and at the same time, she knew what she would say to Ruo if he was still here in Sicario. And now here she was, face to face with one of the people she had been scared of facing.
They couldn't see or hear it, but her heart was beating frantically, and even under the moonlight, she could feel her body shaking with fear and worry. If Rio came at her with a vengeance, Hawi was more than willing to accept whatever came her way.
She wouldn't try to fight him, not when she had cost him his entire family. What she had done was unforgivable and to this day, she hasn't forgiven herself for what had happened that night.
Perhaps this was the moment when her actions and their consequences faced her, right? But Was that the same for Rio too? Did he hold that scale of resentment for the reigning white wolf and for what Hawi had failed to do for them?
Was it something that he would try to avenge too?
"That was an unfortunate incident for all of us, Alpha Sicario," Rio began.
"I know... I should have done better," Hawi responded sincerely as she stared at him with bated breaths.
"You did more than any of us ever thrift possible that night. You gave us a reason, you helped us and frankly, we had the choice of leaving or staying. I could have left my mate behind;
"... because I wasn't into mate bonds at the time, but you are worth fighting for, alpha Sicario. What you believed in was worth giving up your life for and that was what we did. Fate always has different uses for us, and that is what happened that night.

"All I can say is thank you for letting us all fight in your war, it was an honor," Rio stated with earnest pride.
