Chapter 15: Post-Disaster Cleanup Squad! Oscar-Worthy Acting!
The Special Department!
Have they discovered my true identity?
Lu Yu frowned but remained calm. Even if his identity had been exposed, it was no cause for panic. He was no longer the powerless individual he once was.
With the Morning Star-level Fear Balloon in hand and the Void Shadow Spider nearing its hatching, he commanded two formidable forces. Coupled with his four powerful abilities, Lu Yu’s strength was sufficient to raze multiple cities. He was akin to a walking nuclear weapon.
At this stage, he had earned the right to negotiate with the Special Department.
However, unless absolutely necessary, Lu Yu preferred not to antagonise them. After all, he was still part of humanity.
Though humans struggled to survive, their weakness was relative. Against the power of evil gods, humanity seemed fragile, yet compared to monsters, humans were strong.
When the Federation mobilised fully, the calibre of its operatives would surpass imagination, and there would undoubtedly be numerous entities beyond the Morning Star level.
Moreover, if the Special Department had truly uncovered his identity, he wouldn’t be hearing the doorbell now. Instead, he would already be surrounded by elite operatives.
It was more likely a routine post-disaster investigation.
After all, in the aftermath of any catastrophe, some monsters tended to hide in human homes, secretly feeding on flesh to evolve. The Special Department was responsible for handling such incidents.
With this in mind, Lu Yu stood and donned a brown jacket. To prevent them from kicking down the door, he called out loudly:
“I’m coming!”
“All right!”
A voice responded from outside, sounding somewhat relieved.

Watching them work, Lu Yu sighed outwardly but chuckled internally, marvelling at his flawless act.
The other man, misinterpreting his expression as concern over damaged furniture, offered comfort:
“You’re quite lucky. Only your house suffered some destruction. The bloke next door was trapped in spider silk and melted...”
He shook his head in regret, visibly disturbed by the neighbour’s tragic fate. The imagery of a living person dissolving like a burning candle was harrowing.
“Captain, please stop!”
The young woman, visibly pale and nauseous, cut him off. The horrific scene had clearly left her traumatised.
As the inspection continued, Lu Yu struck up a casual conversation with her. With his worldly experience, he quickly learned her name: Ning Xin—a gentle and serene name. The stern man was her captain, while the one inspecting was called Old Zhang.
They had come for post-disaster cleanup, prompting Lu Yu to casually ask:
“Cleaning up must be tough work. You’re one of the few with such strong nerves for it.”
Ning Xin’s mood improved slightly at his praise and quipped:
“Actually, I’m not part of the cleanup team. I’m supposed to handle communications, but today’s situation was dire, so they pulled me in to help.”
“They really know how to stretch resources—making one person do the work of two. Do you at least get overtime pay?” Lu Yu joked.
“Overtime pay? As if!” Ning Xin rolled her eyes, exasperated. “They even gave us a new mission—to search for the awakened...”
“Ning Xin, we’re leaving!” her captain interjected, frowning.
Realising she had said too much, Ning Xin stuck out her tongue sheepishly, trying to play it off.
Meanwhile, Old Zhang moved from inspecting the living room to approaching the bedroom.
Lu Yu narrowed his eyes, his body motionless, yet an ominous aura radiated from him, intensifying the already chilling night air.
Was it time to make a move?
