Chapter 394: Chaos (1)

As two soldiers carried out a corpse bag, Yao Ran said, "You seem busy, so I won't disturb you."

Li Zhen nodded and reminded her, "Miss Yao, please don't go out for the next few days. Captain Li mentioned there has been increased gang activity and robberies these past few days."

"Alright," Yao Ran replied.

After Li Zhen and the soldiers left and the residents were back inside their villas, Yao Ran returned to her own. As she closed the metal door, she noticed Wu Yehao hiding in the shadows.

Thinking he had something to tell her, Yao Ran went inside, walked to the backyard, and opened the door for him.

"Come in," she said to Wu Yehao.

Leading him to the sitting room, Yao Ran asked, "Why are you here today?"

After taking a seat, Wu Yehao replied, "I came here to inform you about the man we assassinated last night."

Hearing this, Yao Ran raised her eyebrows slightly in realization and asked, "So you are the one who killed the man living next door?"

Wu Yehao nodded and explained, "Yes. He was a member of The Ark. After days of investigation, we discovered that his mission was to take you to Fengcheng City. As for the purpose, we are still investigating it."

After listening to his words, Yao Ran thought for a moment before asking, "So, the reason that woman invited me to the villa next door was to kidnap me?"

"That was the man's plan," Wu Yehao said.

Sensing he had more to say, Yao Ran asked, "Do you have something else to tell me?"

Although the number of street lamps was far from sufficient, it was better than nothing. Concentrating the lamps in certain areas, the base aimed to lower robbery rates during the eternal nights.

The next day, after the technical personnel finished their work, Yao Ran woke up feeling cold. She turned over and moved closer to Long Yu but still felt the chill. Too cold to go back to sleep, she sat up and noticed a thin fog coming from her breath.

Alarmed, she took out a thermometer from her space and checked the room temperature. Seeing that it was five degrees Celsius, Yao Ran was stunned.

In just one night, the temperature had dropped by 13 degrees Celsius.

The villa, built for wealthy residents, had good insulation. Combined with the tempered glass and thick doors added during the sandstorm, the temperature inside her villa was actually warmer than outside.

After putting on a winter jacket, Yao Ran took two more winter jackets for men from her space. She quickly woke Long Yu and helped him put one on.

Handing him a pack of warming pads, Yao Ran said, "Warm yourself up. I'm going to check on Shi Xuan."

Leaving those words, she hurried to Shi Xuan's bedroom and knocked on the door, calling out anxiously, "Shi Xuan, are you awake? Shi Xuan!"

After a few seconds, she heard movement on the other side of the closed door.

Watching the number on the thermometer continue to decrease, she hurriedly shouted, "Shi Xuan, wake up! You can't sleep now, or you will freeze to death!"

After a while, Shi Xuan opened the door, wrapped in a blanket. Seeing his bluish lips, Yao Ran quickly gave him a winter jacket and warming pads.

"Quick, put these on."

Before returning to her bedroom, Yao Ran left an electric heater with Shi Xuan. Back in her room, she saw Long Yu looking out the floor-to-ceiling window, wrapped in the winter jacket. Yao Ran turned on another electric heater and walked up to Long Yu.

Outside, soldiers were patrolling the area, knocking on villa doors to wake the residents. Seeing tiny lights in the distance, Yao Ran knew the soldiers were also checking other areas. The temperature had dropped so rapidly that everyone was caught off guard.
