Chapter 27: The Divine Turtle’s Guidance—Xuanwu Scripture!

“Brother Turtle!”

“It has been decades since we last met!”

Zhang Sanfeng’s face lit up with a rare smile as he addressed the enormous turtle before him. From his vantage point on the cliff earlier, he had caught sight of this old friend.

This was no ordinary turtle—it was the very creature Zhang Sanfeng had encountered during his first arrival at Wudang Mountain. Back then, the turtle had been locked in a fierce battle with a massive serpent. Inspired by their movements, Zhang Sanfeng had gained the initial insight into the art of Taiji.

[n Chinese philosophy, Taiji represents the fundamental principle underlying the universe. It is a concept from Daoism and Yin-Yang theory, symbolizing the balance and interdependence of opposites (e.g., light and dark, active and passive, masculine and feminine).]

That fateful encounter led him to settle on Wudang Mountain and establish the Wudang Sect.

For years, Zhang Sanfeng had sought this turtle, but no matter how thoroughly he searched, it eluded him. He had assumed the turtle had left the area. To see it again now, after so long, filled him with nostalgic joy.

The turtle’s intelligent eyes glimmered as it regarded Zhang Sanfeng, before slowly turning and ambling away.

“Leaving so soon?” Zhang Sanfeng chuckled ruefully.

He had just reunited with this old friend, only to see it depart again.

But then, something curious happened—the turtle stopped a dozen meters away and turned to look at him. Its expressive eyes seemed to convey a message.

“Wait,” Zhang Sanfeng murmured, his brows furrowing. “Do you want me to follow you?”

As if in response, the turtle gave a deliberate nod.

Stunned, Zhang Sanfeng stood still for a moment before stepping forward to follow. Satisfied, the turtle resumed its pace.

The cave was modest in size, about as large as the Zhenwu Hall on Wudang Mountain. Zhang Sanfeng’s gaze swept over the interior, searching for what the turtle might have wanted him to see.

[Zhenwu Hall (真武殿): The central temple of Wudang Mountain, dedicated to Zhenwu Dadi, a Taoist deity associated with martial arts and Taoism.]

“What could it be?” he murmured.

Though nothing about the cave seemed extraordinary at first glance, Zhang Sanfeng trusted the turtle’s purpose. His senses heightened, and he began a meticulous examination of the walls.

Soon, he stopped before a particular section of rock.

“This wall...” Zhang Sanfeng’s eyes narrowed in thought. Though outwardly unremarkable, the wall exuded an almost imperceptible energy.

Curious, Zhang Sanfeng placed his hand on the surface.

The moment his fingers made contact, a blinding golden light erupted from the wall, forcing him to shut his eyes.

When the brilliance finally faded, Zhang Sanfeng opened his eyes to a breathtaking sight—the stone wall had transformed into a pristine jade tablet. Inscribed upon its surface were densely packed characters radiating profound wisdom.

“This is...” Zhang Sanfeng’s voice trembled as he read the title aloud.

“The Xuanwu Scripture: An Immortal Art of the Void Fusion Realm.”

[Xuanwu (玄武): A mythical beast in Chinese cosmology, representing the northern cardinal direction and associated with water and winter. Often depicted as a turtle entwined with a serpent, it symbolizes endurance and strength.]

[Void Fusion (炼虚合道): A stage in xianxia cultivation representing the merging of self and nature, granting immense longevity and near-immortal power.]

“By cultivating this scripture, one may ascend to the Void Fusion stage, attaining a lifespan of 9,999 years.”

“Should one achieve perfection in the Xuanwu Scripture, they may manifest the Xuanwu Avatar and possess a chance to transcend mortality.”
