Chapter 56: The Wide Horizon (Special Chapter)
Chapter 56: The Wide Horizon (Special Chapter)
Alishiera moved northward, leaving behind the warmth of civilization and stepping into a world where even the sun seemed reluctant to shine.
The land was barren, the wind biting, and the air carried the weight of countless battles fought and lost.
Here, survival was not a right but a test, and only the strongest could endure. She had always known that the path to finding Devancier would not be easy.
The demigods who had once roamed their world were beings beyond human comprehension, and her husband had faced one in battle.
Of the three that existed, each ruled over a dominion untouched by time, one in the depths of the abyss, one among the eternal storms, and one in the frozen wastelands beyond the empire’s borders.
If Devancier had fought against one, then his fate was tied to them. With every step she took beyond the empire’s protection, she felt the presence of something ancient.
The divine barrier that shielded their lands from the abyssal creatures was a threshold not meant to be crossed by mortals, but she was no ordinary woman.
The moment she passed through it, her staff, which had served as both her shield and conduit for miracles, trembled in her grasp.
Then, without warning, it transformed.
A golden light enveloped it, reshaping the sacred staff into its original form, a sword.
Elsienflora.
The blade, once dormant in peace, awakened in the face of war. It was the sister to Devancier’s own weapon, Arthivian, the twin relics blessed by the gods themselves.
When she married him, the empire had gifted them these heirlooms, meant to represent the balance of their union, one to protect, one to heal.
Alishiera tightened her grip around the hilt.
She was not only here to search. She was here to fight.
Nightfall arrived swiftly in the north, cloaking the land in a haunting silence. She found temporary shelter in a shallow cave, her breath visible in the icy air.
Her thick robes were barely enough against the bitter cold, but she had no time to focus on discomfort.
The deeper she ventured into these forsaken lands, the more she felt eyes upon her, unseen, waiting, lurking in the shadows beyond her sight.
And then, in the distance, she heard it.
A child’s cry.
The sound was weak, barely audible over the howling winds, but it struck her heart with urgency.
She hesitated only for a moment. In these lands, where no human settlements thrived, the existence of a lost child was unfathomable. It could be a trick. It was a trick.
But she was a mother.
She stepped out of the cave, gripping Elsienflora tightly.
One of the three.
Alishiera exhaled, steadying herself. She was prepared for this.
She had left behind her children, her people, and everything she had ever known, for this journey. She would not falter.
"I seek my husband," she said, her voice unwavering. "Where is he?"
The demigod tilted their head, as if amused.
"Lost."
The word echoed around her like a death sentence.
Rage ignited in her chest, but she did not let it consume her. Instead, she rose to her feet, defying the crushing weight that sought to keep her down.
The wraiths hissed, sensing her resistance, but she did not give them time to strike.
Elsienflora flared to life.
A brilliant golden light erupted from its blade, cutting through the mist, and dispelling the darkness that clung to her. The wraiths shrieked, recoiling from the divine radiance.
The demigod, however, did not move.
Instead, they raised a hand.
And the world around her shattered.
The trees collapsed into dust, the ground beneath her vanished, and in the blink of an eye, she was no longer in the frozen clearing.
She stood at the edge of a vast horizon, where the sky met a sea of endless stars.
A battlefield long forgotten stretched before her, filled with ruins that whispered of ancient wars.
And there, at the center of it all, was a sword.
A familiar blade, embedded in the earth, cracked and broken, Arthivian.
Devancier’s sword.
Her heart pounded in her chest.
She took a step forward, reaching for it, but the demigod’s voice rang out once more.
"If you wish to reclaim him, you must first reclaim his fate."
Before she could respond, the world blurred.
Darkness consumed her, and the next thing she knew, she was falling.
