After Descending the Mountain, Seven Big Brothers Spoil Me

Chapter 948 Great Misfortune

Chapter 948 Great Misfortune

At that moment, Zhouzhou's phone watch suddenly rang. She looked down to see that it was a call from Liu Hanqiu. She was puzzled; he had said he was in the southwest gathering herbs, and they hadn't seen each other in a long time. Why was he calling now? She answered, "Hello?"

"Master," Liu Hanqiu called, sounding anxious. "Something bad has happened!"

Upon hearing this, Zhouzhou quickly asked, "What happened?"@@@@

"I was gathering herbs and found a patient on the mountain. I suspect it's a plague. He said many people in their town have the same symptoms."

Plague?

Zhouzhou was taken aback; she had only read about such things in books and had never encountered one before.

Ancestral Master, hearing this, quickly asked, "Is it in the southwest direction?"

Zhouzhou repeated his words, and Liu Hanqiu exclaimed, "Yes, Master, how did you know?"

Zhouzhou glanced at Ancestral Master, who pointed outside. "You can check for yourself."

Upon hearing this, Zhouzhou rushed outside... but saw nothing. Just towering buildings blocking her view.

She dashed back into the research institute, took the elevator to the rooftop, and let Qin Ren hold her. At a glance, she could tell something was off. There was a faint murky air rising in the southwest, with signs of spreading--this was bad!

Her brows knitted tightly.

Qin Ren called Zhao Xinghua, who, upon hearing the news, said in surprise, "How did you know?"

So he already knew?

Zhao Xinghua rubbed his forehead and said, "I just received the news as well. We haven't confirmed what's going on yet, so I didn't tell you."

Qin Ren relayed Liu Hanqiu's words. Zhao Xinghua recognized Liu Hanqiu as a true national treasure in the field of herbal medicine. Although he had become Zhouzhou's apprentice, that was only because Zhouzhou was an extraordinary person. Apart from her, Liu Hanqiu's medical skills ranked first.

With Zhao Xinghua saying that, it was highly likely to be true.

Thinking of this made his expression even graver.

Zhouzhou leaned in, asking, "Uncle Zhao, can I help? I'm really good at treating illnesses!"

"No way," Zhao Xinghua immediately rejected her without a second thought. "I already spoke with your father about this; he won't allow you to go."

As he spoke, he went outside to find Ye Lingfeng, handing him the phone and silently signaling, "Zhouzhou knew."

Ye Lingfeng's brows furrowed tightly; his worst fears had indeed come to pass.

"Zhouzhou," he said in a deep voice.

The researchers who had raised him had often said the same. Some among them had experimented on themselves, and when experiments failed leading to death, they were cremated without a second thought. His colleagues wouldn't care at all.

Not like Zhouzhou and the others.

He wore a bewildered expression, sitting quietly nearby, his gaze lowered in contemplation.

He didn't pay them any more mind. Zhouzhou worked hard all night, and by dawn, her little arms felt nearly useless.

So tired!

Before dawn, Ye Lingfeng drove to the institute. Upon entering, he saw a pile of bottles and jars. Zhouzhou was sweating profusely.

He felt a pang of heartache and walked up to her, gently ruffling her hair. "It's fine; you don't have to do this anymore. I'll take the formula with me, and if it's really needed, I'll find someone else to make it."

Though it wouldn't be as effective as what she created, it wouldn't be too bad.

"Okay." Zhouzhou nodded, worryingly looking at him. "Dad, please be careful."

"Don't worry. I'm just going to see what the situation is like. I'll be back in a few days."

"Okay." Zhouzhou finally felt relieved.

Ye Lingfeng didn't have much time to chat with her; he quickly packed the medicine she made into a sack and hurried out.

Zhouzhou chased him outside, waving her little chubby hand at him reluctantly.

Ye Lingfeng didn't want to leave either, but there was no choice.

He stepped on the gas, glancing at Zhouzhou in the rearview mirror until her small figure disappeared.

He couldn't help but sigh inwardly; having someone to worry about added many concerns. Unlike before, when he was alone, he never looked back on missions.

Now was different.

However, he still preferred things this way.

He had said before that Zhouzhou was never his weakness, but his armor. For her sake, he would never let anything happen to himself.

When Ye Lingfeng landed, he called Zhouzhou. After that, he fell silent, and whenever Zhouzhou tried to call him, it was always a busy signal.

Little chubby girl was somewhat distracted during class.

Days passed, and she sent a message. It surprisingly showed "Typing..." Zhouzhou was thrilled, but before she could even smile, her smile suddenly froze. She stared blankly at the incoming message.

"Zhouzhou, I'm your Uncle Zhao. Your father... has had an accident."
