Chapter 72 Phantom Conductor? [2] (edited)
Marionette stared at her silently, watching as Lillian took in big and deep breaths. She eventually spoke to her and said with a blunt and stern voice:
"You'll be fine. Growth takes time and effort. I'm sure your muscles are just screaming at how happy they are."
Lillian stared at Marionette's outstretched hand before shakily reaching towards it slowly and grabbing onto it, pulling herself up.
"But I would've at least wanted to be warned before it happened. That damn ghost was so merciless with its actions!"
Her eyes twitched with irritation.
The cursed Phantom Conductor was now revealed to be a skill that would move her body towards the best possible position, albeit straining her body and lack of anticipation for surprising events.
She knew the Phantom Conductor was startled by Marionette's rapier passing through her.
"It seems that it also relies on your sight to work," Marionette mentioned, giving her input, which caused Lillian to nod thoughtfully.
The Phantom Conductor did indeed seem to become inactive once Marionette was out of sight.
She then shrugged, "Everything has a flaw, I guess... I can't exactly have extremely high expectations of a tier 3 weapon. It's almost poetic, though."
"How so?" Marionette asked.
"Well... this weapon was crafted by a pianist out of revenge, which he used to kill the people that destroyed his piano. But by doing so, wasn't he blinded by revenge in a way."
Marionette stared at her silently but shrugged, "Your reason might have a few flaws here and there. But... sure. I suppose it's poetic." after saying that, she then asked:
"How much mana did you use?"
"Hm? I think... about like... half? To activate it and a little more just to keep it running?" Lillian responded with uncertainty. All she knew was that she had used up a little bit over half.
Marionette then placed her hand on her chin, stroking it with a thoughtful expression while staring upwards. She then mumbled:
"Almost half, huh?"
She then turned her gaze back down towards Lillian and saw her stroking her arms, which were uncomfortably sore.
The muscles in Lillian's legs have grown to a concerning level of soreness—to the point that it would periodically lock in place, causing her to waste more time dodging attacks that would no doubt kill her.
However, despite this growing disadvantage...
CLANG!
The Sonata of Revenge still continued to sing its constant tunes with each successful strike conducted by the Phantom Conductor with each swing of his baton.
Their bodies were perfectly in sync with one another if one looked past the short milliseconds of delay due to Lillian's limbs locking in place.
The Sonata of Revenge's enchantment did not speak of how many times its ethereal song can continue to rise in volume or continue to linger through the air.
No...
Instead all it spoke was that with each strike, the rapier would continue to sing.
CLANG!
Lillian struck the monster's segmented body once more, listening to the resounding echo from her strike like hitting a bell with a small hammer.
The ominous song of the rapier lingered through the air with the sounds of ghostly piano keys hitting the floor.
It was like the calming sound of raindrops tapping against the ground, except the shiver you might get from being drenched in the rain was far from what the monster was going through.
The more Lillian continued to strike the monster's body with the edge of her blade, the more it seemed to shiver.
The monster's body trembled vigorously, rattling like the tail of a threatened rattlesnake.
Its thick black armour smacked against each other, creating the sounds of blunt chimes consecutively hitting each other.
A soothing sound for Lillian but a dreadful one for the monster as it began to lose direction of Lillian.
Its eyes trembled as it saw not one... not two... but three Lillian's closing in on it.
It then suddenly heard Lillian's voice, speaking in an ominous tone:
"Do you hear it...? The song of your undoing?"
