Chapter 1371 Disappeared Magically

Chapter 1371 Disappeared Magically

losing the second captain was a bitter feeling.

dindora was the balance between the three captains he had groomed from scratch.

she wasn't as uptight as gelmar and was great in social engagement, and she was also—not as clumsy and dependent as linthia. a perfect blend that made her the easiest to talk to and reliable in handling the capital city's varying problems.

rex liked how dindora turned out.

from her evolution during the great war, her intention toward rex and the empire was clear.

her intention of making dargena city her home could be felt through her passion.

it was what led her to evolve in the heat of the battle.

because of that, rex had a plan for her future, he wanted her to become the general of the empire that specialized in war. her bloodline—as a war dryad made her the perfect fit, she would've got a great future serving the empire.

now, she was no more, and he had to make do with the third captain.

i was planning on demoting linthia but seemed like fate wanted her to stay a captain.

rex's clone shook his head lightly.

he wanted to give the third captain's position to liliya and let linthia be a royal guard—or the sort but a spot was now opened with dindora's death. rex doesn't need to demote linthia or anyone, liliya could replace dindora's position.

focusing on the moment, rex's clone looked down at the third captain sternly.

linthia was still trapped in shock.

everyone, queen shanaela and the elves understood her current state of weakness.

she had lost someone dear and keeping strong legs was extremely hard.

nevertheless, heeding her emperor's words, she tried standing up.

placing her hands against the ground, linthia found them shaking hard as she sobbed.

she was not strong enough to suppress her emotions—and cried even harder, as she tried to push herself to climb to her feet. raising her gaze to look at rex's clone, she saw him waiting patiently, waiting for her to stand.

biting her lower lip, she pushed harder, fighting her own body that refused to stand.

"if anything happens tell your big sister, okay?!"

halfway through, dindora's voice echoed inside her head—adding more weight to her effort.

all the promises, consoles, and support from dindora rang again in her mind.

but the heaviest of them all was dindora's last words.

...

"stay with me, sister... don't you dare close your eyes!"

linthia lifted dindora's head a little while using her other hand to put pressure on dindora's torn neck, tears streamed down her eyes but she kept bearing hope. glancing at the elves, she screamed, "call the best healers! bring them here right now!!"

upon hearing this, the elves stammered but quickly scurried to call the healers.

several elven healers present were already using their energy to heal dindora.

but against the rampaging death mana, none of their heals were able to bore any effect.

"just wait a little longer, the healers are coming" linthia added, clasping dindora's hand firm.

in response, dindora only weakly looked down to her chest.

linthia followed her eyes—and saw the hole in her chest that was also bleeding hard. and as linthia saw that, dindora spared her a weak smile. she wouldn't make the next half a minute, the death mana was already encroaching on her heart.

seeing this, linthia gritted her teeth and used her energy to dispel the death mana.

in a fierce struggle—the death mana reacted and her energy was quickly devoured.

she closed her mouth with her hand as blood climbed her throat.

as she tasted the iron tang in her mouth—linthia cried harder, she was once again, too weak to do anything. her failures were unending, she couldn't catch a break, the world showed her how weak she truly was.

using the last bit of her strength, dindora reached her bloodied hand to linthia's face.

she caressed linthia and forced a weak smile again.

"p- promise... ful... fulfill it... for us"

"i- i don't know if i can... i'm not strong like you, i'm nothing like you, i'm weak!"

more tears poured, she didn't know if she could fulfill the promise they made to each other.

upon hearing this, rex's clone gave permission before flunra darted away.

rex's clone focused back to the verdantveil forest in front of him, and used the system to scan the whole area—to make sure that he wouldn't miss even a single death order stone that would help him cultivate his new eternal death element.

swish!

a bluish light swept forward like a radar—scanning everything within its range of vision.

but in the next second, a frown crept to rex's face.

"hmm...?" rex's clone frowned. "zero? how can there be zero?"

rex's clone remembered that there were a lot of death order stones littering the ground—so many that one stone littered every step of the way. finding it miraculously gone like this, was weird, he was caught off guard.

"system, can it dissipate like the death mana in this place?

"then where is it...?"

frowning, rex's clone decided to scour the area to see if he was only in the wrong spot.

maybe there was a dead zone that produced no death order stones.

but even after scouring the entire place, checking every crevice—that he could locate, rex's clone couldn't find anything. it was as if the wind swept the death order stones entirely, not even one was left behind.

straightening his back, rex's clone scratched the back of his head, "how is this possible...?"

"system, have any theories?"

"so you knew but you wouldn't tell..."

rex's clone pondered for a second, looking around to see if he could crack this puzzle.

it littered the ground earlier and now nothing was left.

since it's basically a rock, someone must've taken the death order stones.

am i stupid? the elves probably had swept the entire place and stashed the stones.

or maybe, it's the orcs—they are helping queen shanaela circle the forest, after all.

nodding his head, rex's clone went back to the battlefield, there were still the others there.

upon reaching there, he saw the wounded were being tended.

no elven or even orc captains were around so rex's clone asked mavok who was sitting on the side, overseeing his pack being treated. he didn't seem to be fully trusting the elves so he stayed behind and watched from the side.

"mavok, where are the others?"

"oh, your highness. all of them are dealing with the berserk pair, somewhere there"

mavok pointed to his left, pointing in the direction of the others.

seeing this, rex's clone nodded, it seemed the elven and orc captains were also there.

"did the elves or the orcs gather the order stones in the area?"

"order stones? no, i don't think so, they were busy dealing with the wounded, and the pair"

"is that so...?"

rex's clone frowned even harder, he couldn't shake the fact that the stones disappeared as if a ghost had taken them. someone must've taken them but there was nobody here other than them or mutated animals.

crash!!

just then, rex's clone's attention was pulled to the side.

he could tell that it was gistella, she was the one who made this loud crash.

the demon moon would pull werewolves to go to the strongest being in the area but a friend wouldn't be attacked, as long as they stayed away. she should be going to the opposite side, there were more strong mutated animals there so why go there?

finding this odd, rex's clone closed his eyes and connected more with gistella's feelings.

he strengthened the connection between them and could hear gistella's mind.

once he heard her, his eyes widened, "when?! since when they are here?!"

gritting his teeth, rex's clone rushed to the side in haste.
