Chapter 1376 Wake of the Dangerous Night
Chapter 1376 Wake of the Dangerous Night
a gentle breeze blew, bringing about warmth that soothes the skin.
mutated birds, and other ground animals came out of their hiding, crawling out into the world to greet the new day. all of them were lucky—they avoided the dangerous night and retained their lives.
having to survive the night, these animals' mood was akin to that of chirping birds.
it was a relief that the sun came out before death had taken them.
rex's eyelids trembled once the sunlight—pierced through the gaps in the forest's canopies and hit him, directly. soon, disturbed by the warm sunlight, he opened his eyes gently—and was instantly greeted by the lush greenery.
a notification from the system appeared at the bottom corner of his vision and he ignored it.
soon, he came to realize that he was lying on the ground somewhere.
but he didn't sit up and check, he stayed on the ground for a bit longer to rest.
he knew what he had done last night but he blacked out when he was about to catch voltara—rex didn't remember anything after that. from the way he blacked out—he assumed that it was the demon moon's doings.
even then, he doesn't want to think about that.
now, his body was very sore almost as if he had done a marathon through the entire night.
no, worse.
it felt like someone had slammed and battered his body against broken glass all night long.
each time he drew a breath alone felt like dragging his lungs over sharp shards.
in the entire world, there was only a few pain that could trouble rex.
however, although he was not screaming right now, he felt weak from the fatigue and pain.
rex stayed on the ground for another hour, basking himself under the sunlight and the gentle breeze of the forest. once he awoke fully, he turned and pushed himself up. fortunately—the forest seemed to still be the dark elves' territory.
he hadn't gone somewhere far, he was still nearby.
"eughh... my throat is dry," rex mused, rubbing his throat. "and my mouth tastes funny"
just then, his hand stopped rubbing as his mind recalled his conviction last night.
"right... i did do that," rex forced out a wry smile.
coming to the realization that his berserk state during the full moon was an ability compared to a curse, he decided to use it and in that process, he also embraced his werewolf side and began munching, savoring, and eating raw flesh.
if he had been told he would embrace his werewolf side months ago, he wouldn't believe it.
he never aimed to reach this point.
but then again, with what he truly was—this day was inevitable.
it would definitely come.
no matter how much he wanted to deny it, this was going to happen sooner or later.
"guess there's some truth in what kyran said..." rex mused, shaking his head.
as he recovered from last night, he turned his head to look around and was surprised to find a person leaning on a tree nearby. it was iris, she was sleeping. with her back against a tree, and she was clutching her bow tightly.
squinting his eyes, rex saw that she was bruised all over.
"did i cause that...?" rex frowned and approached.
despite his foggy mind, he vaguely recalled before he blacked out—he turned to face iris and the other dark elves with her. he seemed to be distracted—and there is a chance he was the one who caused this.
in fact, he was quite sure that he was the one responsible for this.
just as he reached his hand to wake iris by shaking her body, her grip suddenly tightened.
moving flawlessly, iris drew her bow, lifted it, and pointed it at rex.
she was extremely alert to the point that even during her sleep, she could still react fast.

"your... your majesty?"
"it's okay, it's only me—the night already passed"
learning about the inner fang, he was afraid that devouring his invincible apparation was a reckless move for him. he didn't know what it was—in fact, he thought he was hallucinating but he wasn't.
"at least last night ended well," rex nodded.
hearing this, iris nodded and smiled lightly but she suddenly lost balance—falling to the side.
rex was quick enough to catch her before she could hit the ground, he looked at her with a frown and scanned her with the system. once the scan was done, he pulled iris' shirt—and saw three holes on the right side of her abdomen.
it was still gaping and there were still traces of violent kingly energy coming from them.
upon closer inspection, the kingly energy was divided into three types.
just this alone showed that it was he who did this—she suffered a direct strike.
"sigh..." rex shook his head dejectedly. "why are you smiling like that when you're in pain? you should've told me sooner, instead of acting tough. surely, stopping me wasn't an easy thing to do"
placing his hand on the gaping holes—he dispersed the steaming kingly energy.
it took him mere seconds to do that as the kingly energy was his.
"done, it should begin to heal now," rex nodded before carrying iris princess-style.
he wanted to check his reward from last night but now that iris was wounded, he decided to postpone doing that. rex then turned towards a direction, "i wonder—what's going on there, what happened to the undead?"
now that he was fully awake, he remembered the undead catching them off guard.
a perfectly executed plan that even he didn't anticipate or sense.
even though he didn't know what happened, after his clone was defeated, he could tell that at least a huge portion of the death order stones were taken. it was a perfect ambush—and none of them were ready for it.
"obtaining a forest-worth death order stones, that's going to be a problem," rex mused—he was worried that an undead elder would reach the tenth-rank realm, before him. "as long as it was not elder noskear, it should be fine but if it was her..."
rex wanted to believe that what he did for the world—killing the fifthborn would be enough to at least deter elder noskear—from actively conspiring for his downfall. had he not ended the fifthborn, the world would return to the way of the ancient past.
it would be bad for everyone, including the undead.
but rex has a feeling that it doesn't mean anything to elder noskear.
he ridiculed her and wounded her pride so that wound was probably still bleeding.
elder noskear was probably still actively looking for a way to return the favor.
and this was her doing.
"that's a lot of death order stones though, i should've expected this," rex clicked his tongue.
he had obtained the eternal death affinity, it would be his seventh element.
using the death order stones for himself, would probably propel him to the ninth-rank realm, in his eternal death element in a short amount of time but it wasn't possible now. not even a single death order stone would be left behind if the undead succeeded.
all rex could hope was the others somehow were able to stop the undead.
"speaking of stopping, what happened to kyran?" rex turned to the other direction.
smelling kyran's scent lingering in the air, he dashed away—bringing iris along with him.
rex needed to sprint for about thirty minutes until he reached a cliff with a small drop, it was not that far and kyran's scent was coming from here. along the way, he already checked the system to see if he was alright.
and thankfully, kyran was still alive.
considering his resilience with the demon moon, killing him wouldn't be easy anyway.
soon, rex reached the edge and made an abrupt stop.
he was met with an open place, the air here was more refreshing than even inside the forest, and he understood why when he saw the crystal clear riverbank down at the center. some of the mutated animals could be seen along the riverbank.
but rex saw a gathering of mutated animals to his left.
to be exact, it was a gathering of predators that seemed to be chipping on something.
naturally, the only answer for them to gather like this was if there was food.
as rex leaped down to the gathering, he flared his aura, surprising and also scaring all of the mutated animals around. all of them ran away when they sensed his aura, and once they did, the sight curled the corner of his lips upward.
he could see two bodies washed on the riverbank.
one is dead while the other is unconscious with brutal wounds across its body.
"he kept his word. good work, kyran..." rex nodded, acknowledging kyran's grit at this sight.
