Chapter 1406 Werecats and Tabaxis

Chapter 1406 Werecats and Tabaxis

Once he was done with the first task which was strengthening his soul, Rex instantly went to the next one. He has no time to breathe or idle around, he needs to constantly move in order to succeed in his plans.

It wasn't a matter of him alone anymore, those close to him were also involved.

Rex was always reminded of what he was dealing with whenever he tried sensing his mana.

A massive portion of his mana was inactive—this reminded him of Devo in the Spirit Realm as well as Nivellen who was writhing alone in her realm. Because of those constant reminders, it was close to impossible for him to relax even for a minute.

Both Rex and Iris exited the capital city upon bidding their farewell to King Jorik.

Provided with rations and a few vials, the two began their journey.

Under the influence of both, the Primordial Speed Peach—and the Dust of Gliding Wind, the mutated black panther covered great distances—with each gallop. Both items aided it to be even faster.

One enhanced its muscles while the other used nature to provide more boost.

Despite being in the early ninth-rank realm, it could fare with those of higher realms.

Along the way, Rex thought of something.

"Is the map accurate? I'm sure the terrain changed," Rex asked questioningly.

Iris—who was sitting behind him nodded, easing his worry, "It's accurate. I already sent many sentries to find a fixed path to Zahara Consortium while waiting for you, this is the latest map that they used to get there"

Her initiative was appreciated.

Rex promised to visit her and learn about the Tabaxis but he has no time to visit.

He was too busy dealing with other things and made Iris wait for a long time.

So knowing that she made the initiative to find the smooth route to reach the Tabaxis was a relief—they would not need to go into—trouble searching the route, and could focus, on the more important parts such as actually learning the Tabaxis' customs.

It took less than an hour for the duo to exit the Dark Elves' territory.

Iris waved at the sentries, who were making sure the road was safe.

All of them also bowed at Rex out of respect.

Now they were in the wild and would need to keep their vigilance at the maximum.

"Here, stick it onto your skin," Rex twisted his torso and handed Iris a sticker.

A circle-shaped sticker he bought from the System called the High-grade Beast Repellent.

Looking at the sticker, Iris raised an eyebrow, "What is this thing?"

"It'll make our scent horrendous for Order Beasts, none of them would want to be close, with us with this on," Rex explained, he was in a race with time—so he couldn't afford to have any mishaps happening along the way. "Just stick it anywhere, it doesn't feel like anything"

Upon hearing this, Iris nodded and placed the ticker on her cheek.

Strapped in light armor and leather, it was hard to reach her skin.

Sticking it on her cheek was convenient but she looked a little bit funny because of it.

Of course, Rex didn't forget to give the mutated black panther a nose cover so that the scent from these stickers would not get to it. Because of Rex's preparation, the initial phase of their journey went smoothly.

Nothing happened along the way.

Rex and Iris went through the vast land and headed straight to the edge of the continent.

Making the mutated black panther—as their mount was also not a wrong choice, it doesn't care about the terrain. Be it rocky, flat, filled with vegetation, or even littered with swamps, the mutated black panther could easily course through all.

It wasn't a royal mount without a reason, the mutated black panther was effective.

Once night came, the Dust of Gliding Wind became better.

A whistling gust of wind could be seen around the mutated black panther's body, allowing it to make use of the cold night wind to increase its speed. Only when it was midnight did Rex and Iris come to a stop to camp.

As opposed to resting, they stopped because Rex's senses picked up something ahead.

"How many?" Iris asked from behind.

Rex's eyes narrowed, he focused on the lingering energy in the air, "Four of them,"

"Someone inside the Spirit Realm wanted me or rather, my help..." Rex gritted his teeth.

Rex hadn't really thought about it, but now that he did, resentment builds inside of him.

No matter what, he would find out who the one behind this was and make them pay.

Just then, Iris came back with a contemplating expression.

Seeing her approaching, Rex gestured for her to sit beside him—tapping on the empty spot.

Iris didn't refuse the offer and sat beside him.

"So, should we start? I think the Order Beasts would be cleared in an hour or so" He said.

Pausing for a second, Iris hesitated but eventually nodded her head, "Yes, we can start. I will start by explaining the basics of the Tabaxis—and then we will touch—on the more practical subject you would really need once we arrive"

Rex nodded in response before Iris began.

As she said, she started from the very basics as to what Tabaxis really is.

Even though Rex already knew about this—having purchased the information about them not too long ago from the System—he still listened attentively. Unlike the System that provided a more robotic view, Iris would definitely have more insights into her explanations.

Based on her, the Tabaxis has never wanted to become thieves.

It was nature that dictated that behavior on them.

Similar to the Vampires who were attracted to blood, the Tabaxis were attracted to the act of stealing as well as shiny things. It was in their blood, their bloodline pushed them to steal. No matter how much they resisted, the desire would always prevail.

Just from that alone, Rex had obtained new information.

In the System's information, it was only said that the Tabaxis was a race of thieves.

Rex wouldn't know that it was a biological need for the Tabaxis to steal from that alone.

But from Iris, he learned more deeply about this race of cat people.

On top of that, she also explained to Rex that back in the day, the Tabaxis were actually not Tabaxis. Back in the ancient era, or at least, until the later part of the ancient era, they were known as Werecats.

Tabaxis were classified as what Ancient Humans called humanoid beast monsters.

Inside that category were also the Tigerman and Werewolves.

However—near the end of the ancient era before the Supernaturals were sealed their Origin had gotten a breakthrough and took a drastic path. Instead of keeping true to what they are—the Origin decided to direct their evolution towards human-like.

Because of that, they became the Tabaxis—mixing their bloodlines with the Humans.

As a low-rank Supernatural race, they had to do whatever it took to survive.

And at the time, their Origin thought that this was the best way for them to survive.

In essence—the Werecat Origin thought that by making themselves look more Human, the Ancient Humans would have more empathy for them, and thus, would not, genocide them. And as it turns out, that was the right choice.

Some Ancient Humans took a liking to them, a human and cat hybrid.

So much so that at some point, they became a trend in Ancient Human society.

Most of the Tabaxis became sex slaves or slaves in general.

It was horrible but that allowed them to survive.

And now, because of their Origin's quick-thinking, they were climbing the ranks of the world.

"Because of that, I insist you in going to meet with them," Iris explained with a firm tone.

Upon hearing this, Rex nodded his head in understanding.

Even though the System mentioned them once being Werecats and explained how they did that in order to survive, the way Iris explained it made him understand more about what the Tabaxis were really feeling.

Had Rex used force against them, it would be a battle to the very end.

Angels would grasp them instantly and they would band together.

Iris helped him avoid that outcome.
