Chapter 884 - After party
Chapter 884 - After party
“Then that’s enough of this for today. I will come check up on you another time for a more practical lesson. Until then you better not slack off.”
“Thank you for your guidance, lady Suhen…”
“Ahahah. Yes, that’s right. That’s right,” Suhen said, stepping out of the balcony, “Good, good…”
Night had already fallen, but Sofia stayed on the balcony for a bit. The fusion had been tiring, and she was still curious about the things in her package.
She brought out the book first, quickly flipping through the pages, it wasn’t great for deep comprehension, but she could read that fast to get a good idea of the contents.
“Woah that’s… That Gray Sunset guy was fucked in the head. No wonder he died trying that.”
Storing the book back, Sofia waited for a moment.
“So…? Mr.Scribe? Can we add that to the leveling method?”
[It will slow things down, but yes.]
“Let’s try it, then. Now the other things… Do you happen to know what they are?”
[You can try our custom ID, but I have no confidence in giving a good result]
The flask and fruit appeared in Sofia’s hands and she cast the out-of-body custom Identify, carefully sending her mana to surround and analyse the objects.
[Cloudy Potion: seems unstable, must be drunk or used right after opening, no other information]
[Purple Fruit: extremely complex concentrated mana structures, almost certainly from the forbidden layer, seems to have some similarities to stat candies]
“Huh… that’s not saying much.”
Storing the items back, Sofia grabbed the stack of papers next. It contained a lot of information she already knew on the Phageid, as well as a breakdown of their types, from the lesser Phageid all the way to the Alphageid and the titans. After the titan, however, there were still a few more pages.
“Special Phageid?”
Phageid Locator… Invisible floating eyes with tentacles that can use mental attacks? There were things like these?
Phageid Zombies? Level above 400, sturdy, fast, and can rebuild their body infinitely from nothing as long as there is ambient mana?
Phageid MIMIC?! Disguising themselves as walls wasn’t enough, they need to have a specialized one? Ascended equivalent?! Can disguise themselves as anyone and repeat phrases it heard perfectly but seemingly incapable of actually understanding speech... Does not indiscriminately kill like other Phageid, objective unknown. Only one case to date, handled by Sun…
What the hell am I reading?
Thank fuck I no longer need to sleep…
Oh my Lords, there’s more…
There were two more pages of special Phageid, then on the last page, she had actually been provided with an explanation for the items.
[Gray Sunset Sealing Elixir]: Potion to be consumed upon reaching the absolute limits of your current filter through the ‘Scarring unto the fabric’ circulation technique, to further increase the technique’s benefits. Must be consumed rapidly after opening, down to the last drop. Very expensive to make so be careful not to waste it. More will be supplied for each filter you cross.
So it’s for later. Good to know, it would have been embarrassing if I got impatient and drank it before reading this…
And the fruit…
[Parasite seed dark eons fruit]: A rarity normally reserved for Kleptran Royalty, which creates an extra mana reserve in the central abdomen (permanently replacing any organs therein). It was originally found by one of Sorrow’s Apostles who could not use it, and safely kept by me until now. (Oh, this is Headless One writing, did you recognize my penmanship?) This rightfully belongs to you now. You can use it safely, I have checked with Creation. However, you would be wise to avoid mentioning it to any Kleptra. If they find out, say you found it growing out of a crack in a leyline and just ate it without knowing what it was.
If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
Somehow I feel hesitant to use that one…
And extra mana reserve, though? It’s true that my belly is pretty much mostly empty space ever since all my digestive system is gone. There are still a few important organs there, though! But… If he already checked with Clint, then… I– I’ll eat it later.
Storing everything back, Sofia finally stood up and walked back into the demon king’s castle. The ambiance had become rather lighthearted, with Apostles and their allies having some sort of calm afterparty all over the castle, hanging out in small groups, smoking, drinking, and playing cards. There was even some music coming from the assembly room.
I can really never understand what there is to like about cigars. Eugh, the smell…
Quickly stepping away from the smoking demons, Sofia walked around the castle looking for Cinthia.
Oh, I should check…
[Error - could not connect spectator]
[Regular Ark operation will resume in approximately 8 hours. Do you want to receive a reminder?]
Sure?
[You will receive a notification when the spectator rooms re-open.]
Alright then. I didn’t miss anything, nice.
A few Apostles tried to strike up a conversation with Sofia as she searched for Cinthia, which she declined saying she was busy. She eventually found her red-skinned orc friend arm wrestling with the Apostle of Insomnia, Terumerurchiel, and, to Sofia’s total incomprehension, Cinthia was winning.
To her new skill, Cinthia showed as being level 348, while Terumerurchiel had the number 412 floating above her head.
With a last push, Cinthia’s noodle-like arm pushed the demon’s equally slender wrist down against the table.
“Aaaaah I can’t beat anyone…” Terumerurchiel complained, slumping on her chair.
“I had no idea it was even possible for an Apostle to be this physically weak,” Sofia commented as she approached the group, “I have a friend that’s the same with almost no stamina because of her skills.”
The beak-headed Apostle of Sickness was standing nearby, back leaning against a wall, and he seemed to find the situation quite amusing. He looked toward Sofia, “Don’t let it fool you, Teru is arguably the most dangerous and cruel person in her filter.”
Teru perked up at his words, turning back on her chair to glare at the man, “Wha- Huh? What cruel?! I share my snacks with you all the time!”
Arms crossed, Ohoromenmarul smirked, his already much too long beak looking even longer. “Do you remember that one-eyed dwarf you cursed with ‘infinite insomnia’? Did you ever return to that restaurant to lift it up?”
“Oh… Uh… I–”
“It was EIGHT MONTHS ago.”
“I– I meant to undo it the next day! I just forgot!”
“Case in point.”
“If you remembered why didn’t you remind me?!! I–” Looking a bit uncomfortable, Teru looked around as if searching for a way out, “Aaaaah I- Uh… I have cookies boiling, I need to go! See y’all later!!!”
Who boils cookies?!
“Look at her run off,” Ohoromenmarul mocked lightheartedly, “Poor dwarf’s going to have quite the scare waking up to that weird mug of hers.”
“Wake up? What about the insomnia?” Cinthia asked, visibly confused.
“I knew she’d forget so I just went and undid the thing myself the next morning. I am quite the empathetic person, unlike her, I couldn’t be that heartle– Oh, sorry. No offense, I hope,” Ohoro apologized, remembering the big gaping hole in Sofia’s chest.
“Oh, no problem. Eating the heart was part of my Apostle ritual anyway, so it’s not really a bad memory or anything…”
“Eating the… Huh… I suppose there had to be quite the hurdle in that ritual considering how long Sorrow had gone un-asked for.”
“Hmm? Eating the heart was honestly the easiest part of the whole thing,” Sofia deadpanned, “I’m going to pay Velania a long overdue visit, are you still coming, Cin?”
“Of course! Just give me a minute to grab more food from the buffet, I’ll be right here!”
“Wait there’s food? Where? I want to try! I have to bring back some for Pestle too!”
“Follow me, Sof!”
Chinthia led Sofia away, grabbing her by the hand, leaving Ohoromenmarul alone in the previously lively little corner of the castle. The sound of heavy footsteps and the groaning metal of thick armor came from the other side after just a moment of silence.
“It had been a long while since the castle was last this lively.”
“Headless One,” Ohoro greeted with a light nod, “Quite refreshing, indeed. If only the occasion was not so somber…”
The tall armor placed a hand on Ohoro’s shoulder, “There were bad times then, there will be bad times again. We are still here, and that is what matters. How is your son doing, Ohoro?”
“Oh, he’s doing quite well, thank you for asking. Just the other day he…”
Back in Ser’Extra, Pestle suddenly felt a strange itch, standing on top of the counter of her food stand.
“Skin not real, so why itchy…” she wondered, “Gah! Is Sofia is find leg without Pesle?!”
